Why Baby Boomers Suck!

Why do Baby Boomers suck? Let me count the ways!  First you have the feeling of entitlement where everyone thinks they deserves to eat their cake and then a slice of the other guy’s too.  Second is politics—everything is red or blue, Republican or Democrat, Left of Right and it doesn’t matter what’s right anymore. As a RVR reader says, they’re “hippy-crits”. I think that just about sums it up! Third is the corporate system in which millions of us have been shuffled in to and used and abused while our Baby Boomer middle managers make all the money for doing nothing.  The list goes on and on.

Here’s an excerpt from the book Why Baby Boomers Suck I put together, which includes cartoons, fast facts about the ugly generation, and little essays about why they suck. Enjoy!

There comes a time for every generation when they have gained enough knowledge of the world around them and of history in general that they realize that the things their parents did and stand for as a generation pretty much suck ass.

The new generation begins to feel capable of separating themselves from the previous generations and so it ‘moves out’ of their parents’ house to embark on their own adventure. It happened for the Baby Boomers in the 60s and 70s and for their parents in the 30s and 40s. It seems to be a natural step in growing up and every generation seems to go through it eventually. For those of us in the generations titled ‘X’ and ‘Y’, that time is now.
For better or worse, this departure usually comes with a general denunciation of everything that the previous generation did and stood for. That comes naturally for our generation because pretty much everything that the Baby Boomers did and stood for as a generation was worthless tripe.

Some may call this proclamation of separation a rebellion, but we like to keep the hysterical talk to a minimum (unlike our predecessors). This book is just a simple account of how The Baby Boomers have created a mess and how we younger generations are reacting to it. This generational divide looks a little different than those of the past, partly because of the immense amount of wealth and opportunity we have now as a culture (despite the efforts of the Baby Boomers), but also because of the character of the Baby Boomers. Our parents looked at revolution as a way of life- they’re not content unless they have something to revolt or protest against. That concept is ridiculous to us. Another striking dissimilarity between our form of rebellion and our parents’ is timing.

It has taken quite a bit longer for us to “rebel” than it took our parent’s generation to rebel. While we end-of-the-alphabet generations have finally become aware of our historical place by our mid-twenties and early thirties, the Baby Boomers knew everything about the world in the 1960s, when they were still teenagers. Sure, we disobeyed our parents when we were teenagers and we didn’t want to talk to them—every kid goes through that stage—but until now, we haven’t openly denounced them as a generation like they did in the 60s and 70s to their parents.

They rebelled by railing on the World War II Generation (or the Greatest Generation as many have labeled them), moving to San Francisco, fighting the power, and trying every drug known to man (and even some known only to frogs). We are rebelling from our parents by wearing jeans and a T-shirt to work, going to church, being politically incorrect, and writing and publishing books.

We, as a generation are finally coming to the realization that the world our parents created is seriously messed up. It’s a world where people are all doing the wrong things for all the right reasons and the right things for all the wrong reasons. It’s a world where there are two dominant political parties that both end up doing the exact same thing for the country: put it in deeper debt. It’s a world where we spend billions of dollars a year on Starbucks and Microsoft and then protest those multi-billion-dollar corporations’ dominance. It’s a world where to see a breast on national television is obscene, but the sexually violent dance leading up to the breast exposure is okay. It’s a pretty strange place the Baby Boomers have created and we feel it’s time to relieve them of their duties.

We are eager to start taking control–so eager, we’re not waiting in line like our parents did. My mom always says I “want everything NOW!” As if that’s a bad thing. Yes, I want everything now–and if I can’t get it now, I’m going to make it myself. Gone are the years of worshiping the physician. Gone are the years of walking on eggshells when someone around you may be offended. Gone are the years that created screaming secularism and silent spirituality. Gone are the years massive government without progress. Well, maybe not yet.
And so, we present this book in reflection of the world the Baby Boomers have given us. It is an ode to the generation about to retire and suck us dry (with all due respect).

  1. my biggest regret as a boomer is we raised a generation of whiners

    • Baby Boomers are whiners too. Only most of their whining just sounds like another sanctimonious lecture on issues they know little about and care nothing about because it doesn’t suit their self-interest.

    • Awwww. Dont be angry at your kids mr boomer. Its not their fault they are smarter than you at 8 years old then u r today.

      Lolol

    • My biggest regret as a Gen Xer was ever listening to a Boomer who just liked to hear themselves talk, and that I don’t have a time machine to make a generation that still seems to walk around in dippers have to grow up, and try getting what was an easy career in their day and age, in today’s market! Oh, based on your track records Boomers, maybe you should use that term “raised” loosely. You have hardly acted as adults yourselves!

    • kellyneuman@yahoo.com

Go Fuck Yourself… You may have Fucked some random person, and that resulted in a child, but rest assured, you nor anyone else in your whole lousy, Godforsaken Baby Boomer Generation “raised” anyone. Thanks for Nothing, Asshole !!!

    • Wow, macho much? Well, let me tell you something: macho bullshit won’t get you far in life. By goin’ around and bein’ all, “Look at me. I’m so tough that I could kick anyone’s ass,” will just get your ass handed to you.

    • My biggest regret as a gen xer, is not becoming a serial killer of boomers.

Seems its perfectly acceptable that 1 in 2 boomer women had abortions, and killed over a quarter of gen x. 27 million of my generation were murdered by boomers.
      That is pure generational genocide.

But now the boomers are old, hypocrites, that want to put totalitarian control over the rest of us, and all in the name of “saving the children”

I wish a horrible plague would kill 75% of the world population. So we can try and start over.

  2. The other day I was in a restaurant and a very rude group of obviously single baby boomers with road trip maps came in. They were incredibly rude to the owner and to my little family seated next to them. It was like seeing adolescents in dinosaur bodies.

  3. An acquaintance of mine (age 57) forwarded an email to me about how governments shouldn’t be spending money on social aid (welfare, old age security etc) but should be giving the money to the over 50 crowd (babyboomers) who are still working, so they can retire early and waste the money better. Another example of the Baby Boomer sense of “entitlement where everyone thinks they deserves to eat their cake and then a slice of the other guy’s too”; as opposed to the Millennials’ “the whole cake is for me” sense of entitlement.

  4. You’re a lousy writer. It doesn’t matter if you like baby boomers or not. You have no talent as a writer.

  5. picnic sandwich

Younger Canadians are paying % 30 too much rent/mortgages. Boomers are selling the nation to Saudi oil billionaires. Then cry about drawing cartoons

  6. Yeah, blame is an easy game to play, especially when you’re young and incredibly stupid as indicated by so many of these posts.

  7. Yes, the most widely college educated generation in American history that will waste it’s degrees paying off your debt is a bunch of whiners.

Shut up old man, you ran the global economy and world’s resources into the ground and yell at us, statistically the HARDEST working generation since your parents, for being lazy. Don’t talk down to a millenial ever, millenials are entering a job market where having a university degree means “take whatever job you can get” while you could own a home and have multiple kids without any college. Thanks to the greatest generation you guys had it unbelievably easy, my boomer aunts went to college and they didn’t even need to apply, people filled out their applications for them and they had no competition getting in with rather average GPAs. Me and my brother on the other hand had borderline straight As and still had to rely on our saftey schools. You complain at us and taking our money through social security and pretend like somehow social security will help us, as if it will somehow benefit anyone in a few decades after you’ve nearly drained it.

  8. As a Gen Xer, who has kind of gotten stuck in the situation of the Mellinials, I am baffled at how much more articulate, educated, and well versed they are than I, or especially the boomers I talk to are. I have a degree in Mathematics, and after struggling in this market that Boomers would have likely made the equivalent of about six figures in with such a degree, I have had the unique experience of bouncing between higher paying, and lower paying jobs. I just got done at a temporary assignment in which the Mellinials were for the most part very rational, and easy to get along with. The rudest person there was a baby boomer, and he kept trying to interject into everyone’s conversations, even when they didn’t concern him because he had offended and ostracized himself from the rest of the group.
One thing in particular that just gets my blood boiling is these donkeys had the audacity to brainwash entire generations into going to college, like all society needed was college grads. No news, obviously, but the whole mentality was “it worked for my generation; it will work for yours; shut up, listen, and go to school kid”. Nobody was taught to be a entrepreneur, we were all supposed to be mindless drones, that regurgitated the perfunctory cliches that Boomers rattled off over and over. There was no challenging of these colleges to make things better, no challenging of our political system to become less bipartisan, and much of what is stated in this article remains true. You can see it on this board, the Mellinials often state historical facts, yet the boomers (who are the whiners themselves) just throw out cliche Jr High comments like the fist post on here: “my regret as a boomer is we raised a generation of whiners”…..which is whining in itself! Seems Boomers have mastered the art of subjectivity, while Mellineals and most Gen Xers try to lean more in objectivity. I am sorry for younger generations, and disgusted with the one that is about 10-30 years older than mine. I really wish there was some way to create some time machine and force these spoiled bastards to actually have to earn a good job.

    • Being the son of a baby boomer yet being born on the ass end of the millennial timeline I agree with your perception of the boomers completely. My own mother who was a government worker at 34 after being a housewife from 26 years old There is not an ounce of ambition or drive in her. What’s worse, i was raised predominantly by this cretin. I can imagine the criticism right now “Show some respect! she had to do it all by herself!” In addition to the absolute shit job this person did of raising a man including genetic damage from the SSRIs i got prescribed in Junior high and was on an exceedingly high dosage until my mid 20s because she thought there was something inherently wrong with my behaviour being raised by a single mother had nothing to do with it…*rolls eyes*

You know what i had to do “All by myself”? I worked as a construction labourer for five years and when i finally went to college to get certified as a pipe fitter Every single job in my home town was taken or they wanted someone with “Experience” (Apparently five years watching and helping other fitters do it wasn’t enough) Nope i needed to shovel out more money to go to college and get my 2nd and 3rd year. which also means i have to work while going to college to pay it off. I tried to join a union and they told me “We won’t be accepting applications for a year and a half” that’s applications…not jobs, that’s just to get on the list.

It wasn’t until i said fuck it and started a business with my friend that we began to make a decent income before that it was shit job after shit job. I even got spat on by boomers getting called lazy, irresponsible, being told to “get a real job!” in my line of work outside of construction. if i wasn’t busting my ass apparently i was deserving of humiliation for having a low paying job such as being a guard in the off season.

The entire attitude of that generation is toxic the only ones i have met that i can tolerate are the tradesmen who are still working, and i don’t mean the ones in middle management, i mean the actual workers.

  9. They are selfish fat cunts….getting fatter by their negative geared sponge cakes,….. lets hope these hideous arrogant fat bastards die soon

  10. and I wont be going to their fucking funeral as they have haunted me for years….may they piss shit and stink in their fucking care homes or get burnt in the morgue , they pretend they care…. they dont give a shit….. why should I

  11. to be honest the age group over 80 knew what was life was about and are very nice people…. living with your means, probably lost a spouse who fraught in the war, friends and community…. these fucking boomers dont give a shit as long as they can sell their investment property for 1.2 Million, dont care about neigh boughs , the old lady next door etc, they are boring flat people…. Every government has pandered to these fucking greedy bastards, simply because their name suggests….. the biggest
    voter group

  12. and Know I dont give a shit about SPILLING…. so fuck of you cunt in a box
Also I will winge, cut your eyes out and shit down your throat, and haunt you arrogant

  14. picnic sandwich

Hilary or trump. 2 wonderful boomers

    • Couldn’t have said it any better! Hillary & The Donald are archetypal boomers: It’s all about me! It’s my turn to be president! Look at me! Worship me!

And what happens when you don’t make it all about the Boomer & worship them? They go off all half-cocked and blame the people who are pointing out their faults and asking the questions that expose them as a bunch of kids in adult bodies.

  15. I wouldn’t give much praise to the millennials. They are seriously fucked in the head. Can you imagine these tattooed freaks all cranky and bumping into walls like toy robots at age 50 when reality hits? They highly are the delusional and artificial generation, all while thinking they are the realists. You can easily see through their BS even more clearly than the boomers. The future looks bleak. We should draft them now before they get too old, or send them off to start a colony in the arctic. We really, really should have skipped that generation.

  16. HazeInYourBrains

That generation is the most self absorbed pack of fools ever to walk the planet. They invented nothing with their pseudo “revolution”. Everything they think they contributed (aside from some admittedly damn good music) was a cultural rip off from the Silent Generation before them: From civil rights (King was a Silent Gen), to the Counter Revolution (direct rip off of the Silent Generation “Beats”), to Tuning In And Dripping Out (Leary was a, you guessed it, Silent Gen), it was all a media-induced advertising campaign which they swallowed hook line and sinker. They turned Revolution into a sales pitch, and then bought it out wholesale in the 80’s as they left their communes for the corporate boardroom. I can’t stand their obsession with youth; never could. And now I have to read these vapid flip-floppers whine about how even in their old age they are “youthful” and we should (still) celebrate them. To quote my gen: “Whatever”. Just shut up already, buy your own damn Cokes and sing to (and about) yourselves like you always did. Constantly and mindlessly. You have zero cultural significance now. Get over it.

    • Yep – I make that point in the book

      • Charlie the Quahog

        Hey rantventrant….

I think you make a million great points. You do a good job of encapsulating gen x and millenial anger towards blatant boomer hypocrisy. The boomers cannibalized the planet and their children. My father, a very good man, and a boomer (yes they can exist) and I always discuss these issues. He acknowledges his generation. He saw all the fucked up shit get created. To him, a retired 70 year old sales executive, he says it all was about money. He says that’s the hypocrisy we as xers and millenials feel the most and that’s the biggest difference between us. We are not 100% money motivated. And that’s why we’re angry. We know the damage that money worship can cause. My question for you as an author is do you think the people born in our time, say mid 1970s to today, can turn the ship around? More importantly, WILL we turn the ship around? Do we have the political will to do so? Or will we just repeat our parents methods and policies?

    • Why don’t you shut the hell up instead, you motherfuckin’ bastard?!

  17. For the most part (ie., 99%) they are nothing but pussies. They have no clue about what it means to sweat out the draft, get shot down flying choppers in Vie-Nam, sweat out agent orange. Fuck the lot of them. I guarantee you not a single one would be sharing my foxhole. If they did they wouldn’t have to worry about contributing anything to the war effort because nobody else would trust them. Ergo. My favorite expression: Fracking is in their future.

  18. I have never in my life heard or seen a bunch of more whimpy, sniviling, useless , greedy, stupiy, whinny, pitifull people than the ‘enviornment’ people. Fuck you Barrak ‘Cocksucker’, hypocrite in charge. May you and your pitifull generation suffer, burn, decay and rot in hell for ever or untill something more pitifull rotten happens to you.

  19. I despise them

  20. All the zombie boomers in the world are moving to Canada for pensions free healthcare etc. We will have millions of homeless this winter. They want to harvest your organs so they can live forever. Hilary and trump included

  21. The fact that it took post Boomer generations longer to find out that their parents’ generation sucks goes to show that Boomers really did screw up when it came to teaching you youngsters critical thinking. Do try to catch up.

  22. “Times are bad. Children no longer obey their parents, and everyone is writing a book.” This was written by Cicero, a Roman politician from over 2000 years ago. Nothing changes. I was born in the 1950’s, so I know a little bit about that era. The previous generation worried about us, the previous generation worried about them, and so on. Each generation worries about the succeeding generation. It’s always been this way. The world didn’t get into the condition that it’s in solely due to “boomers” or any other single generation.previous or subsequent. It got this way because of one unchanging thing: human nature. Human nature is essentially the same as it was 5,000 years ago, roughly the length of recorded history. People tend to favor money, power, and instant gratification over wisdom, benevolence and foresight. The first example to come to mind is pollution (I won’t get into global warming. That may or may not be a myth, but very few people would argue that pollution doesn’t exist). That’s why companies continue to pollute the air and waters as much as government regulation will let them: it’s cheaper to dump the pollutants into the air and waters as is, than to treat them first. “Patch up the wagon so that it lasts for my lifetime” with little or no concern for future generations. Pollution isn’t a new thing; it started with industrialization — well over 150 years ago. Ironically, it was the “boomer generation” that began the movement to control pollution in the 1960’s. This is because that happened to be the time that it started to really get out of hand; lakes and rivers were dying off, and the smog was so thick that in some cities, it was hard to see farther than a few hundred feet. If something hadn’t been done about pollution, life as we know it may have ceased to exist. The previous generation or a subsequent generation could have been the ones to do it, had it gotten to a critical state at that point in time. The prior generation started the trend to allow the government to spend more than it took in, and each generation since has continued this trend, causing a mushrooming (geometric) effect. The boomers did nothing to reverse this, nor did the next two generations. I could write 50,000 or more words about other examples without needing to search for ideas. The point is that no one generation is at fault. This is an ongoing effort since at least 3,000 B.C. Human nature doesn’t change. It probably never will, as long as humans continue to occupy the planet.

On to entitlements. Not all are handouts; some are earned. Many boomers will begin collecting Social Security in a few years, which thankfully will be a minor part of my retirement income. They are ENTITLED to it. They paid into it for over 40 years and continue to do so. Social Security isn’t a handout; Nobody can collect Social Security unless they have paid a minimum amount into it over a required number of quarter-years (admittedly the requirements were a lot more lax years ago than they are today). The more paid into it and the later one begins receiving benefits, the larger the monthly benefit is; and the reverse is also true: pay less and collect earlier and get less per month. Those who collect Social Security have earned it. Don’t confuse Social Security with Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid, or Food Stamps/EBT, which are welfare-based programs. Technically the latter three are considered “entitlements,” but it isn’t the same. People don’t have to pay into welfare-based programs to receive them. I won’t debate the rights or wrongs about that in this post, because it’s going to be long enough as it is.

On to college education. Back in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, a college education was considered necessary to get a better-paying career. It was true then because the world believed it to be true then. Business wanted college graduates, so we went to college. Millions young adults, including me, went to college, even though about half of us didn’t belong there and wouldn’t be helped by whatever we may have learned. Times have changed, and Business has modified its views. The world has become much more specialized than it used to be. This is a good and a bad thing, but it’s beyond the scope of this reply. For the past 15 years, I have recommended NOT attending college directly out of high school, unless the degree is needed for a specific career (i.e. CPA, teacher, attorney, physician) or the person attending has far above-average intelligence. Instead, I recommend attending a vocation-based school and getting a specialized degree/certificate in an in-demand field. Instead of getting a generic education, the student gets specialized training that can be immediately put to use. If that person is a hard worker and diligent in duties, he/she will rise in the world of business, and the company/corporation will pay or help pay for higher-level courses specific to his/her job to further expand that person’s value to the company (and to himself/herself). It’s a win-win situation. There are pitfalls to this approach, but it’s a better alternative to running up $100,000 in debt and possibly having no marketable skills.

    • Canada is a retirement town for the hippies of the earth. You can change their diapers and sleep on the street. Pensions for all 1950 brats. They were delivered by storks. And America couldn’t vote for bernie. Hippy hilary vs hippy trump. Theyve rolled around in bullshit since woodstock. They took over the economy in 2008 because daddys house lost value and flushed it down the toilet watching people on 911 cameras and snorting coke.. You wont harvest my organs boomer zombies. You’ll pay rent in hell. You’ve sucked enough

  23. Great stuff. Same thing over here in Britain. I mean I’m 42 and get things said to me like “in my day” and “before you were born”. Condescending patronizing morons just because I wasn’t around when a certain pop band or film was around.
Britain has always been an embittered country were young people have always been treat like crap. The older generation don’t like change.

  24. Baby boomers are the Worst Generation Ever. There should be a cut-off at age 70 to vote or hold public office until the indignant entitled frauds have become extinct.

  25. Wow, this is about the most entertaining thing I have read in a long time! Way better than anything TV can provide me tonight! We all hate every generation before our own and after our own, nothing new there. But what kills me is how “tough” Boomers think they are behind their computer screens (with overly large font and/or light-up magnifying glass within
reach). I’m GenX and the first to admit ALL generations have their good and bad qualities….but u gotta laugh at the oldsters trying to throw down on here like they are gangsta but 5 min later criticize a young person for those EXACT same behaviors!!? Which is why the Boomers win for the Generation most likely to contradict themselves, speak without educating themselves on the facts, and having zero grasp on common sense in general. It is impossible to convince them to approve of anything non-mainstream. Unless you are a doctor from Nigeria who needs their bank acct number so they can deposit their Nigerian lottery winnings. (Cuz doctors would NEVER deceive law abiding retirees!)
